Summary:

Receives payments, and issues change to customers in the Hospital cafeteria. Operates an electronic register, tabulates amount due, and reconciles totals at the conclusion of assigned shift.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Scans customers’ trays and tabulates amount due.

+ Receives money, credit/charge vouchers from customers making purchases from the Hospital cafeteria.

+ Operates an electronic cash register and issues change to customers, and itemized receipts.

+ Reconciles intake of cash and credit/charge vouchers with register tape.

+ May count and sort currency and coins.

+ Answers questions regarding menu items and prices. May provide direction to patients or visitors as required.

+ Refers disputes, problems to supervisory staff for settlement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Work requires a high school level of educational development and less than six months of previous experience.

+ No certification, registration, or licensure required.

+ Work requires the skills to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters.

+ Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions. Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions, questions or requests for information. Work occasionally requires contact with patients and/or visitors which involves courtesy.

Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities:

+ Work requires occasionally reaching and grasping objects.

+ Work requires proofreading and/or reviewing documents.

+ Work requires lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 11 to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions:

+ Work is generally performed in an office or clinical environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.
