POSITION TITLE                             Cashier

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • A  bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • At least three years of experience cashiering, processing payments, or related skills
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, & Outlook)
  • Experience in higher education institution working with students, collections, registration processes, and financial aid disbursements
  • Experience with computerized accounts receivable sub-system, Jenzabar and experience using a 10 key calculator
  • Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures
  • Ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and post to records
  • Ability to use a 10 key calculator
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications
  • Knowledge of State and Federal policies as related to cashiering operations
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies and /or procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Provide College wide cash collections and maintenance of established fiscal controls as they relate to the Cahier’s Office

·         Process, receive, and record cash transactions

·         Process third party contract payments and other miscellaneous transactions

·         Provide daily window service to students, faculty, and staff within the designated hours (i.e., receiving payments, writing receipts, and cashing checks)

·         Record funds from each source on a cash count sheet

·         Perform daily cash reconciliations and prepares cash for deposit

·         Monitor the money in cash drawers to ensure that amounts are correct and there is adequate change

·         Maintain a system of cash records posting funds from each cash source on a cash count sheet

·         Post in detail register totals, receipts, shortage, overage, and refunds

·         Aid accounting personnel in cash receipt operation, and prepare daily reports on shortages, overages, and errors

·         Prepare bank deposits and check balances for various accounts

·         Process accounts receivable transactions for various accounts

·         Balance, reconcile, and reimburse various accounts

·         Record and collect all returned checks

·         Handle, disburse, and account for petty cash vouchers, and prepare a monthly report to charge the various accounts

·         Assist Financial Aid Staff and Accounts Receivable Clerk in sending for students to sign financial aid checks

·         Notify students of parking tickets that must be paid

·         Distribute W-2 forms to students

·         Answer questions and provide information on procedures and/or policies as deemed necessary

·         Approve cash and process checks

·         Assures that adequate security procedures and established internal controls are followed.

·         Answers the main cashiering phone line and drafts correspondence in response to problem resolution

·         Provides back-up to the Student Accounts Receivable Clerk

·         Performs other duties as assigned
