Job description

Commonwealth Financial Network® is the largest privately held Registered Investment Adviser–broker/dealer in the U.S., with offices in Waltham, Massachusetts, and San Diego, California. Since 1979, we’ve been helping our field force of independent financial professionals help investors pursue their financial goals. We do that by providing them with the technology, research, resources, and support that allow them to keep their focus on what’s most important: investors and their financial objectives.

With that said, we are not your typical financial services firm. For starters, we’re a fast-growing company, and we think and have fun like a start-up. Conveniently located on the commuter rail near the intersection of Route 95 and the Mass Pike, we’re accessible from anywhere—and away from the congestion of a downtown commute.

Commonwealth recognizes that our people are our greatest asset by investing in training and professional development. As a result, Commonwealth has been recognized 37 times (and counting) as one of the Best Places to Work by top publications in the region (Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, San Diego Business Journal, San Diego Union-Tribune), as well as in the IT industry (Computerworld). With high marks in areas such as work environment, work/life balance, job satisfaction, and opportunities for advancement, Commonwealth is a place where you can thrive.

Discover what it’s like to be psyched to come to work every day! We offer you:

  • A generous bonus plan
  • Stock options and use of vacation properties (Cape Cod, Lake Winnipesaukee, Sunday River, Key Biscayne, Las Vegas, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic)
  • A more relaxed, “dress for your day” dress code
  • A free on-site fitness center
  • Ample opportunity to volunteer with and support local charities
  • A VTO (volunteer time off) day to use toward a cause that’s important to you
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Free breakfast on Fridays
  • A competitive benefits package—and much more

The Cashiering team is a select group of money movement specialists working within a vital operational department. As part of this team, you’ll be trained on a broad array of transactional functions, from check, wire, and EFT disbursements; to check and stock deposits; to certain types of securities transfers. You’ll be on the phone daily: with financial advisors and their staff, with internal Commonwealth departments, with transfer agents, and with other contra firms. You’ll sit in on meetings and collaborate on projects. And you will be provided with plenty of opportunities to succeed and grow within the company and field, including acquiring industry registrations. In short, you’ll rapidly gain singular, invaluable career experience.

We are a small, close-knit group (we currently number 21 strong), and we’re picky about fit! Together we’re responsible for thousands of transactions every day, so an exceptional eye for detail is a must, as is calm, diligent performance. We look out for each other and pick each other up when things get busy; we expect that you will do the same. So, if you’re team-centric and can hustle in a fast-paced environment, then this may be the right gig for you.

Think you have what it takes? Then let’s talk.
  • Processing money movement transactions like check, wire, EFT, and journal disbursements
  • Transferring securities between accounts internally and externally, paying close attention to the strict regulations and deadlines governing these transactions
  • Depositing physical stock certificates and performing associated certificate research
  • Processing physical check deposits
  • Assisting in establishing standing-payment money movement instructions
  • Resolving occasional problems; assisting our Service Center, advisors, and product companies as necessary
  • Participating in a variety of departmental projects—both operational and in support of our company culture—and taking on additional responsibilities as requested
  • Providing indispensable customer service in each and every interaction

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Treasury and/or finance and banking procedures, or equivalent work/undergraduate focus, preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills—and a commitment to embracing Commonwealth’s indispensable service philosophy
  • A passion for hard work
  • Highly detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated
  • An eye for process improvement; a forward thinker when it comes to problem solving
  • Determination to continue developing your knowledge and a desire to surpass expectations
  • FINRA Series 7 securities registration or related registrations a plus

Have we piqued your curiosity? Can you see yourself thriving in this career opportunity, as well as our Anything but Common® workplace culture? If so—and if your background and experience align with our needs—please do submit your application right away.

Commonwealth Financial Network® is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to a diverse workforce.
