Job description

The Director of Payroll position manages the payroll process and performs accounting related tasks. Effectively oversees the integrity of the information and work of the senior payroll specialists. This individual brings strong supervisory skills, the ability to manage payroll operations, and strong customer service skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data. Typically uses automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and year end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management.
  • Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations and provides general ledger support.
  • Supervises payroll staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Stays current on payroll systems to achieve alignment with HR benefits to ensure effective accounting support.
  • Facilitates management and employee understanding of payroll procedures.
  • Ability to continually review current processes and procedures to improve efficiency and to optimize the use of technology.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow agency mission, philosophy and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and ability to understand department policies and procedures
  • Proven experience working in a team environment to meet deadlines
  • Prior work experience in payroll.
  • Strong technical accounting and business skills. ADP Enterprise, ADP Timesaver
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Oracle experience a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor Degree
  • Experience: At least 5 years of management experience with payroll HRIS systems and related software programs.
  • Seasoned payroll manager who has worked in a fast paced deadline driven environment with complex rules including government and union contracts
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll systems ADP etime and timesaver oracle and excel skills preferred. OR An equivalent combination of related education and experience
