Job description

Position Summary:

The Senior Engineer reports to the CIO and is responsible for the enterprise network environment to include: servers, SAN administration, printing services, VPN administration, CISCO switching/routing, wifi and ASA firewall. This position will be the main-point-of-contact for all infrastructure technologies needs or concerns and will perform system and network monitoring and diagnostics. The Senior Engineer will also perform administration on system backups, disaster recovery and COOP services to insure data recovery in the event of system failure or disaster.  This individual will also be responsible for conducting research into hardware, software and services for best product selection for technology needs. The Senior Engineer is a key participant in problem-solving and capacity planning for future organizational needs. This position will supervise other infrastructure staff and provide cross training to ensure complete coverage.

Position Responsibilities:

·         Work with Delcor (managed service vendor) for all technology patch management needs to include firmware or software upgrades.

·         Oversight of network to include supervision and training of infrastructure staff.

·         Work with Database Manager to ensure infrastructure needs are met.

·         Work with Delcor to managed anti-virus for servers and end-point, helpdesk service, inventory management, network/server performance and firewall/network security.

·         Work with Security vendor for annual security assessment and remediation.

·         Document network diagrams, policies and procedures (review and update as needed).

·         Work with CIO and security vender to create and maintain IT security policies.

·         Work with Training vendor to ensure NACo staff is properly trained on core applications.

·         Attend 1 week/year of IT training to ensure IT skills are continually updated.

·         Provide daily monitoring of servers, network equipment, print services, firewalls, SAN and DR to ensure a secure and optimally performing Network for NACo’s data.

·         Work with Database Manager to ensure software and databases are secure and up-to-date on all patches and updates.

·         Manage image servers for imaging desktops/laptops.

·         Manage, configure and virtualize servers.

·         Review logs to ensure optimal system/network performance and security.

·         Provide support for mobile computing devices such as hand-helds, iPads, and laptops.

·         Provide general support for enterprise applications and networked devices such as desktops, printers and scanners.

·         Manage performance monitoring tools in cooperation with Delcor.

·         Function as technical lead for EMC SAN, SANs and Cloud storage.

·         Manage/maintain Barracuda backup solution to include periodic testing.

·         Work with CIO to plan and implement disaster recovery and COOP.

·         Provide operational support to NACo Conventions and other NACo meetings.

·         Work with CIO to plan and implement new equipment roll-out of desktop, laptop, printers, servers, SANs, network equipment and firewalls/security technology.

·         Work with MacLabs (engineers) to ensure Macintosh user needs are supported.

·         Manage and support Microsoft Office 365.

·         Function as primary contact for infrastructure needs and licensing.

·         Configure and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Domain Controllers.

·         Must provide first-level technical support as needed to a 100+ users (Window 7/10). professional environment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         Extensive experience in the configuration and administration of Windows servers including substantial knowledge of Active Directory and Windows print technologies.

·         Extensive knowledge of VMware vSphere 5.5 and higher, VCenter, VMotion.

·         Strong understanding of network architectures, Wi-Fi, Cisco and IP protocols.

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·         Knowledge of integration of Apple technologies into a Windows server environment.

·         Ability to function collaboratively within a fast-paced, service-oriented team.

·         Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a demanding environment.

·         After hours work required in the event of implementation/upgrades/emergency situations to ensure optimal network/system up-time.

·         Perform department support and other duties as assigned.

·         Answer staff question and provide brief on-demand training regarding equipment use.

Qualifications: 

·         At least 4 years’ experience working as an engineer in a Microsoft and CISCO shop.

·         At least 1 years’ experience working as a lead/senior engineer providing guidance to administrators or engineers.

·         Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related degree.

·         Strong working knowledge of Windows Server 2012 and CISCO networking.

·         Ability to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical users.

·         Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and trouble shoot system/network issues.

·         Preferred CISCO CCNP, Microsoft Server certifications, experience with ASA firewalls and EMC SAN.

·         Self-motivated team player with strong project management, organizational skills and attention to detail.

·         Ability to work effectively with IT team members

·         Travel required approximately 3 time/year
