Overview:The Registered Nurse in the Radiation Center will provide care and sympton management to cancer patients. Must encompass the roles of direct caregiver, patient education, researcher, chemotherapy side effects with combined Radiation, biotherapy and investigational drug administration if applicable and other areas pertaining to the clinical component of care. The staff nurse is supervised by the Radiation Oncologist.Responsibilities:PART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)Administers medications in a safe and appropriate manner.Assists in performance improvement/quality assurance.Assists physicians with exams and procedures.Attends seminars, institutes, etc., for continuing education purposes.Calls in new and renewal prescriptions with physician approval.Ensures accurate and current documentation on all patients.Gives updates to insurance companies. Pre certifies patients with insurance companies.Identifies problems and needs requiring intervention by another department of the hospital or an outside agency.Maintain positive relationship with hospice organizations.Maintains well stocked and clean work space.Obtains appropriate consent forms for procedures/treatments.Patient assessments, both physical and psychosocial.Patient educationPerforms clerical work as needed including typing, filing, etc.Performs dressing changes as needed.Phone triage.Transports patients as necessary.Utilizes the computer system appropriately for order entry, pulling up results and input of patient charges on a daily basis.Qualifications:Experience/Education Requirements: Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN preferred. Previous Radiation Oncology experience preferred. License or Certification Requirements: Current Illinos RN license. OCN certification preferred. BLS certification preferred.
