Senior Estimator - Industrial

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt

Job Summary:

Responsible for developing complete bid packages for multiple disciplines with heavy emphasis in water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, industrial projects and large diameter pipelines. Experience in street and road construction, mining, landfills and airport civil construction a plus. The position will also require strong networking abilities with subcontractors, vendors, and clients for multiple types of project delivery methods including Design Bid Build, Design Build, Job Order Contracting and Construction Manager at Risk.

  • Business Segment Director

Supervises:

  • Estimators

Essential Functions:

  • Participates as a member of the Business Segment Management Team.
  • Preparation of complete bid proposals, cost models, and GMP’s.
  • Ability to present proposals to clients.
  • Performs necessary take-offs for completion of bid proposals.
  • Develops negotiating strategy and procurement plan for materials, process equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Understands current market conditions and prices.
  • Develops and maintains excellent relationships with subcontractors, vendors and clients.
  • Daily use of Trimble Business Center, OST, Hard Dollar, Word and Excel Software.
  • Understands MBE/WBE/DBE requirements.
  • Prepares cost reports, trend logs, and project risk assessment reports.
  • Willing to do whatever it takes to complete estimates including helping others in the department to complete their assignments.
  • Basic understanding of Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control (SCADA) in the Industrial arena.

  • Proficiency in Hard Dollar, OST and Trimble Business Center.
  • Budgeting experience.
  • Knowledge of local specifications – MAG, MDOT, ADOT, COS, and supplements to each.
  • Understands the process of building a job.
  • Purchasing background a plus.
  • Dependable, proactive and prompt.

Education and Experience:

  • GED or High School diploma as a minimum. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management highly desirable.
  • 10 years of equivalent field experience.
  • 10 years of equivalent estimating experience

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Minimum 50 hours per week, more hours may be required as needed.
  • General office environment.
  • Requires no heavy lifting.
  • Includes sitting, standing, walking and use of hands, arms, legs and feet.
  • May be required to travel to jobsites on occasion. Jobsite conditions will vary depending on type of work being performed, however, employee may be exposed to dust and noise while on a jobsite.
