We’re looking for an experienced DevOps Manager to own, manage and support our AWS environment as well as evangelize DevOps within the larger Technology organization.  In addition to managing our awesome DevOps Engineer, you will define best-practices and workflows, troubleshoot and resolve performance problems or downtime incidents, with a focus on reducing mean time to repair (MTTR), build/ maintain monitoring and alerting systems for all key applications and infrastructure, create operational efficiencies through automation of our infrastructure and build/ maintain monitoring and alerting systems for all key applications and infrastructure. At VHL, our Engineering leadership all play ‘hands-on’ roles. So while you manage a team, you are also actively involved in analyzing, designing, writing, testing and implementing clean, performant, maintainable and testable code.

Our technology stack:

  • Languages/Frameworks: Ruby/Rails, Javascript
  • Persistence: MySQL, Postgres, Redis, ElasticSearch
  • Automation: Chef, Cloudformation
  • Hosting: Rackspace, AWS

What you bring to the party:

  • BA/ BS in computer science or other related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of DevOps experience (experience in ed-tech or education fields, a strong plus) with at least 2 years of experience in a managerial/ mentoring function
  • Previous success building and developing high-performing engineering teams in dynamic agile environments
  • Experience with monitoring, operating and scaling a large SaaS
  • Extensive experience with Linux and the command line
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure automation tools
  • Experience with Chef/Puppet/Ansible
  • Experience building and managing CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with Agile as applied to DevOps workflows
  • Experience in building a DevOps culture that integrates tightly with the entire engineering team
  • Experience with both AWS and application-level security
  • Experience managing and working well with geographically distributed teams as well as highly collaborative environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Some proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus
