The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) operates a toll system consisting of about 900 lane miles of toll roads across North Texas. Facilities include the Dallas North Tollway, the President George Bush Turnpike, the Addison Airport Toll Tunnel, the Mountain Creek Lake Bridge, the Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge and the Sam Rayburn Tollway. The authority serves four counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A predecessor agency, the Texas Turnpike Authority, was created by the Texas Legislature in 1953; the NTTA was created by the Legislature in 1997 to take over for the turnpike authority in Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide inspections to ensure that contractors provide and complete contract services.  This is accomplished by ensuring plans and specifications are adhered to, working with project managers and contractors on work progress and construction, overseeing testing services, creating project records, and verifying barricades and traffic control are according to plans.  Other duties include responding to emergencies, responding to weather-related emergencies, and completing special projects as assigned.  This position will require the roadway project manager to work at nights during certain construction projects.

Essential Functions

  • Manages engineering technician functions by providing advice, reviewing information regarding construction activities, identifying training opportunities, assisting with bid information, and assisting in providing information to the public.
  • Coordinates with project managers and contractors by regularly reviewing progress and issues, resolving interpretation differences in plans and specifications, recommending change orders, reviewing and evaluating construction documents, participating in pre-bid and construction meetings, and providing information and support to the public, other agencies, and contractors.
  • Reviews projects and information by attending regular update meetings, communicating progress and information to personnel, coordinating information on items such as lane closures to the public and affected agencies, assisting in resolving problems, and meeting with transportation agency personnel for project reviews.
  • Verifies inspections by visiting sites, questioning contractors, create data on inspections, recommending changes, and communicating with project coordinators and managers.
  • Maintains records by completing regularly scheduled reports, reviewing construction diaries and related documents, randomly verifying contractor forms, checking materials on hand, and verifying final estimate records.
  • Ensures compliance with inspections by routinely making inspections, ensuring traffic control is in compliance, adhering to approved safety standards, and monitoring storm water plans.

Qualifications

  • Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.  Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Over nine years experience.
  • Valid driver's license.  Industry recognized certifications related to construction inspection are highly desirable.
