RESOURCE TREATMENT FACILITY

Registered Nurse

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the physicians and providing routine medical care to all residents served.  Responsible for ordering prescribed medications from the pharmacy; setting up daily medications; and administering medications at the prescribed times.  Responsible for accurate and timely documentation regarding any medical issues.  Responsible for scheduling physician visits for new admissions as well as annual physical examinations for all residents.  Assist the MD during examinations and assure the exam and all orders are accurately documented.

Works as an hourly employee in accordance with established policies as outlined in the employee handbook.  The employee in this position is expected to give two weeks notice prior to voluntary resignation.  A probationary period of 90 days is required.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse with 1-2 years’ experience.
  • Must posses a current nursing license.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
  • Experience working in a residential treatment facility preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about childhood development.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of practical nursing specialties.
  • Knowledge of various medications used in conjunction with the mentally handicapped
  • Knowledge of infection control practices
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diets
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
  • Ability to accept directions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Physical, mental, special demands, and working conditions:

  • May be required to lift/restrain residents.
  • May have some exposure  to  communicable/infectious diseases
  • May have some risk of injury from assaultive/abusive residents.
  • May be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
  • Ability to work assigned hours per week.
  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to run, squat, and kneel.

Machines, tools, equipment:

  • Telephone, switchboard paging system, walkie-talkie.
  • Copy machines, fax machines.
  • Durable Medical equipment.
