SUMMARY

Based in beautiful Irvine, CA, we are CalAmp, the pure-play pioneering leader of the Connected Car, Connected Truck and broader Internet of Things (IoT) marketplace. Currently, we are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer experienced in the LAMP (PHP) stack. Java is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This technical leadership position will leverage the candidate’s extensive systems and software knowledge. The software currently under development utilizes open source software, including: PHP, Java, MySQL, Tomcat, PostGRES and MongoDB.
  • Coordinate activities of the software development team with product owners, team leads, QA, field engineers, hardware engineers and manufacturing both in-house and outsourced.
  • Manage and encourage best practices in the software team around design, development, quality assurance, version control, deployments and maintenance the company’s key software products.
  • Use good organizational, communication, and consensus-building skills to manage the development process.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and according to required quality standards.
  • Mentor, maintain and grow the software organization to be a highly performant team of engineers and quality assurance personnel.
  • Facilitate communication across project teams including project status, justifications for variances and technical information (architecture, design and implementation objectives).
  • Evaluate progress and results of development efforts to ensure development teams improve efficiency and quality as they execute.

MUST HAVES

  • Experienced LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) developer, Java is a plus
  • Ability to do hands-on software development roughly 60% of the time
  • Ability and experience managing teams of 5 or more
  • MySQL, MongoDB or similar, Modern UI frameworks
  • Agile software Development (primarily Scrum)
  • Recent track record delivering enterprise level web-based projects
  • Ability to write technical documentation, including code guidelines and best practices
  • Ability to make technical presentations to development teams and various levels of management
  • BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related

STRONG PLUSES

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • ReactJS, Angular and similar
  • Knowledge of the Automotive/Telematics vertical and IoT
