Schedule: Full-time 40 hours, evenings

The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the daily operations of the Department and the supervision of staff. Supervises and coordinates the routine technical duties of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Sterile Processing Supervisor will also work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates leadership skills by using problem solving methodology
    • Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels for problem solving
    • Demonstrates flexibility in response to changes
    • Delegates tasks and expectations effectively
    • Interacts appropriately with identifies customer group
    • Promotes and supports the team approach to departmental functions
    • Evaluates the effectiveness and implications of own decisions
  • Assists Department Manager in the following capacity:
    • Assesses staff knowledge and skills related to the Department, reprocessing, sterilization and distribution of surgical supplies and equipment
    • Demonstrates knowledge of processes by actively participating in daily departmental functions
    • Precepts and evaluates staff
    • Examines and monitors staff job performance for compliance with instructions, regulatory requirements, establishes CPD policies and procedures
    • Documents disciplinary problems.
  • Serves as liaison to the OR and CPD Staff
    • Collaborates with the OR staff on specific service requirements
    • Communicates information regarding supplies and instrumentation
    • Monitors quality of service and recommends and initiates improvement
  • Provides operational support to OR
    • Procures and edits the preference cards according to daily OR schedule
    • Monitors the accurate and timely assembly of surgical case carts
    • Observes the surgical experience and evaluates the efficacy of CPD related functions and support
  • In collaboration with Manager provides ongoing in-service education
    • Promotes and supports ongoing education to the staff by encouraging participation in a Central Processing Program that is accredited
  • Prepares weekly assignment schedule
    • Prepares staffing and assignment schedule to ensure adequate coverage to maintain CPD functions and activities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Materials Management
    • Inventories and initiates in-house or outside orders in accordance with established par levels and budgetary guidelines
    • Participates in consolidation and standardization of supplies and equipment of CPD and OR.
  • Performs these duties in accordance with organizational, departmental, and national standards
    • Oversees and assures quality assurance monitoring systems. Maintains documentation in accordance with regulatory agencies and departmental protocols.
    • Assists the Department Manager with short and long term goals, i.e., preparation for annual budget, measurement and reporting of productivity, preparation for regulatory agencies, expansion, modification, or consolidation of departmental services.
    • Provides managerial coverage of the department during off shift hours when the department is open. If necessary, provides coverage to other shifts, i.e., sick calls, vacations. It is the expectation that all job related duties are carried out and completed according to departmental protocol.

Qualifications

 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as an accredited Central Processing Technician required.
  • Maintain CRST certification by accumulating 12 CEU credits per year.
  • Program with CRCST or Surgical Technologist required.
  • Three to five years related experience in Sterile Processing, to include, but not limited to: decontamination, sterilization, Materials Management and Case Cart system.
  • Previous supervisory experience in healthcare setting preferred.
  • Demonstrate considerable written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adheres to all ICARE Standards.
